Can you give us a brief introduction of yourself?

After I graduated from the University of Washington, I moved back Taiwan to complete my military service. I joined HSBC as Management Trainee in 2014, and worked as product manager in Advance proposition, mortgages, insurance, and credit card under the Retail Banking and Wealth Management business. I am very grateful for starting my career at HSBC as a young professional because the highly competitive working environment and well-structured training program challenged me to become a better critical thinker in business and inspired me to become a better version of myself. I left the bank to support family business before moving to Beijing to work as Investment Associate at BizConf, a telecom company that recently IPO-ed.

从华盛顿大学毕业后，我回到台湾服兵役。2014年，我以管理培训生的身份加入汇丰银行，在零售银行及财富管理部担任产品经理，业务范围包括预付款业务、抵押贷款、保险和信用卡等。我很荣幸能在汇丰银行开启职业生涯，成为一名职业金融从业人员。这里激烈的竞争环境和完善的培训计划，提升了我的批判性商业思维，不断鞭策我成为更好的自己。后来我离开汇丰为自家家族企业工作了一段时间，之后来到北京，担任会畅通讯的投资经理，这家电信服务提供商最近刚刚上市。

Describe your biggest accomplishment in your career so far？

HSBC sent me to ShenZhen in 2016 to lead a team of 5 and support the launch of the first credit card of HSBC in China. This was one of the most memorable and exciting moments during my time with the bank. Together in a core team of less than 20, we planned executed marketing initiatives, end-to-end customer journey, innovative business strategies, and trained more than 450 sales across all tier one cities in China. This was also the time that got me even more curious about the markets and businesses in China.

2016年，汇丰银行派遣我到深圳工作，带领一个五人团队协助汇丰在华首次发行信用卡。这是我在银行工作期间最难忘、最兴奋的一段时间。我们的核心团队成员不到20人，负责设计并执行了营销计划、端到端的客户体验和创新业务策略，并为中国所有一线城市的450多位销售人员提供培训。正是这段工作经历激起了我对中国市场和商业的更大兴趣。

What led you to pursue an MBA at this point in your career?

It is all about timing and how you plan your next step. Pursuing higher education has always been a part of my plan in my professional development, even since when I was still studying at university. Knowing that having work experience will be a crucial part in this journey, I did not rush into pursing an MBA. I have always been very curious about China, especially how to apply my experiences to make positive business impacts in these dynamic and disruptive markets. I believe when the timing is right, everything will naturally fall in place if you plan well and take action.

一切都是对时机的把握以及自我的规划。还在大学学习期间，我就将继续深造列入了自己的职业发展规划。我知道获取工作经验对于职业发展非常重要，因此并未急于攻读MBA。我一直对中国充满好奇，尤其想知道如何在这个活力四射、日新月异的市场运用我的工作经验，取得积极的业务进展。我相信只要计划得当，并在时机成熟时采取行动，一切都将水到渠成。

Why China?

Why not? Everyone knows how fast China is growing, and it is never too late to be a part of it. Interesting fact: in 2019, there are 129 companies on the Fortune 500 from the Greater China region, whereas only 121 from the U.S. This alone is a huge step in terms of growth in the macro perspective. I see myself becoming a “bridge” to the rest of the world for China, in both my professional and personal development. I want to be able to fully utilize my background, experience, and unique traits to maximize the positive influence and impact that I can bring as an individual anywhere I go.

为什么不选择中国呢？中国的快速发展有目共睹，任何时候参与进来都不算晚。这里与大家分享一组有趣的数据，“2019年财富世界500强”中有129家企业来自大中华地区，而只有121家来自美国；仅从宏观角度来看中国已取得巨大进步。在事业及个人发展方面，我希望自己能成为中国与世界之间的桥梁。我希望充分利用自己的教育背景、工作经验和独有特性，随时随地、最大限度地发挥我作为一个个体所能带来的积极影响。

What was the key factor(s) that led you to determine on Guanghua instead of other school, and why was it so important to you?

After working 6-7 years in highly competitive markets in the Greater China Region (Beijing, Shenzhen, Taipei, Hong Kong), I felt ready to advance my career with an MBA. Choosing Guanghua School of Management became a very clear and natural decision for me to further build both my personal and professional development. Guanghua is the most prestigious and competitive institution in the finance field, which aligns with my profession in the banking and finance industry. Lastly – on a more personal level – I simply like the name and sound of “Guanghua” and “Peking University” (Beida); it just clicks.

What was the most challenging part of the admissions process? 

Answering the application essays was challenging enough – you have to be so concise but not boring. Discovering that my application was still “incomplete” after I clicked “submit” because I had to make another 3-minute video about myself was definitely another surprise.

填写申请材料非常具有挑战性——你必须要做到简洁明了，同时要避免空洞无聊。点击“提交”后我发现申请仍然“不完整”，因为我还得拍一条3分钟的个人视频，这可真是另一个“惊喜”。

How do you find higher education in China different from the US? 

Both have its merits. This is not an apple-to-apple comparison because the history, methods, and practical applications of higher education between these two countries are completely different. At Guanghua School of Management, you are at the best education and learning institution in China. Therefore, if you want to explore your opportunities and develop your career in China, this is the best and only place to be.

Which event/activity impressed you the most in your MBA Studies? 

The MBA Alumni Mentor Program at Guanghua School of Management really showed me the strength and cohesiveness of the MBA Alumni network. I am impressed by the “family” type of bonding that Guanghua creates for its MBA Candidates and Alumni. Essentially, this is the network and relationship that every MBA Candidate seeks to build during his or her MBA journey, and Guanghua not only provides just a platform to connect, but also helps to establish a life-long friendship within all its MBA members.

What quality best describes your MBA classmates and why? 

Determination is the word that best describes my MBA classmates.

Even though we have a very diverse class, everyone shares the same goal: to learn more about doing business in China. With everyone’s unique work experience, background, culture, and identity, we get an ample amount of interesting views and ideas. At the end of the day, we are all determined to learn and achieve this same goal.

意志坚定最能形容我们MBA同学的品质。

尽管我们所在的班级不同，但大家都有一个共同的目标：深入了解如何在中国开展业务。我们每个人都拥有独特的工作经验、文化背景和个人身份，因此观点和思路丰富而多元。每天结束后，我们不断学习、实现共同目标的决心都会变得更加坚定。

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Relax and chill. Life is busy as it is. Going to new restaurants with friends, trying out or learning something new, exploring the city, reading recommended books… and if none of the above, you will probably find me at the driving range practicing golf.

休闲和放松。忙碌的生活需要调剂。我会和朋友一起去新的餐厅，尝试或学习新的东西，探索城市，阅读优秀书籍……如果不是做上面这些事情，我可能会去练习打高尔夫球。

My parents, they both have the most positive impact and influence on my life.

How do you find life in Beijing, and how is it different from what you have imagined? 

I grew up in Beijing from 1999 to 2008, but even so, Beijing has changed tremendously. Life in this city is much more convenient than how it was back then, and every foreigner is learning the Chinese language.

1999至2008年我就在北京长大，但即便如此，北京仍然发生了翻天覆地的变化。与过去相比，现在的城市生活要便利得多，到处都有正在学习汉语的老外。

What was your defining moment and how did it shape who you are? 

On a professional level, getting into the Management Trainee Programme (MT) at HSBC and completing it was definitely a defining moment in my early career right after university. MT really trained and pushed me to realize my potentials as a young professional in the banking and finance industry. On a personal level, the moment that defined and shaped who I am was the year when I moved to Beijing, where I attended the International School of Beijing. Moving from a local school in Taipei to a school where everything was taught in the English language was especially challenging for a non-native English speaker like myself. I was in Grade 4, and I had to learn everything from scratch. This was more than just a process, but a change in my behavior, dedication, perseverance, diligence, social interaction, will power, and even grit. I am certain that I have been more than exposed to these “soft skills” at a very young age, more than most of my peers. This journey played a major role in shaping my values and characteristics that define who I am today.

从职业层面来看，参加汇丰银行的“管理培训生计划”并顺利结业，绝对是我大学毕业后早期职业生涯的决定性时刻。这项计划真正把我培养成一名银行和金融领域的专业人士，并促使我不断挖掘自己的潜力。从个人层面来看，决定和塑造了我的时刻是我来到北京，就读国际学校的那一年。从台北转学到一所全英授课的学校，对于像我这样的非英语母语的人来说是一个巨大挑战。我当时上四年级，不得不从头开始学习所有东西。这不仅是一个从头学习的过程，也是塑造我的行为、意志、毅力、勤奋、社交、意志甚至勇气的阶段。我敢肯定，我比大多数同龄人都更多、更早地接触到这些“软技能”。这段经历对塑造我的价值观与个性产生了重要影响。

Where do you see yourself in ten years? 

In ten years, I see myself working for corporate, leading my own team that brings growth and makes positive impact to the business and the community in which we live. I also see myself continuously giving back to the society; a passion that I have wherever I go. I do see myself as a father of two kids, too. Beyond that, I want to earn a PhD, and then I want to work for an NGO / NPO for a few years, hopefully after I have established my career for 20 years.

十年之后，我会率领自己的团队推动企业发展，为我们的商业及社区带来积极影响。我也将不断回馈社会——这也是我无论走到哪里都不会忘却的一种热忱。到那时，我应该已成为两个孩子的父亲。除此之外，我还想继续读博，然后为非政府组织/非营利组织工作几年——希望在我开启职业生涯20年后能有这样的机会。
